During an adjustment, joints are stretched to a certain point and then quickly stretched slightly further by the doctors hand. The quick stretching motion separates the joint surfaces which contain a small film of fluid between them. As the fluid is rapidly stretched small air bubbles form and collapse creating the iconic “CRACK”. This restoration of motion helps promote sensation through the nervous system, releases endorphins and enkephalins which helps alleviate pain, and indirectly removes and reduces fascial adhesions which bind down joints, muscles, and nerves restoring mobility to your body.
Soft tissue manipulation focuses on using techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, lymphatic drainage, and many other techniques and approaches to help improve the tone and texture of muscles and fascia. These techniques in conjuction with adjustments help ensure that you get the most lasting effects from treatment.
To ensure that we are not only addressing dsyfunctions in the musculoskeletal system, we focus on using principles of strengthening, stretching, and breathing to condition the nervous system to hold the changes that are made with treatment giving you an optimal state of health to pursue the life you want.
